Opening Day of the 2026 Outdoor Season

The opening day of the outdoor season, as usual, depended upon the Spring season, weather and condition of lawns, but despite the recent wet weather and a temporary problem with the mower after servicing, play began on the 23 March.   The Club House and equipment were cleaned, the four lawns were marked out, the hoops positioned, and play commenced.

Club Ladder Competition 2026

We were all delighted that the weather improved and that we had got the lawns ready for the new season which kicked off with an invitation for all members to join this years ladder competition which will start at the beginning of April 2026.   The Ladder Competition was open to all members irrespective of their experience as it is an in house competition that allows for members to challenge one another to a match in their league, and in winning move up the ladder to the next league  The challenges and matches continued throughout the season culminating in a sought after prize cup being awarded to the person at the top of the ladder on the first Monday at the end of the summer season of October.

Congratulations to Joint Winners of the Ladder Competition last year, who were Keith and Richard, and to Caroline P who won the Ladder Second Division.

Chairman Ray's Welcome to the 2025 Season

The indoor winter sessions were very successful and well attended and enjoyed by players even though with the wooden flooring at the St Brannock’s Rooms as a playing surface the type of play and tactics had to be very different to outdoor play.

The first outdoor session went well, with members quickly adjusting to playing outdoors again, even though the grass was a little long.  It was great to see everyone again at the start of the season and to catch up with their news.

The fourth full size lawn is now complete, and looks very good.  This will enable us to rotate the lawns in use and reduce wear and tear during the season.   Mike Wright has worked very hard on this lawn as well as keeping the other lawns in very good condition

Clean up day went well with lovely weather helping to speed up the work to get the lawns and clubhouse ready for the season.

The Challenge ladder will again start at the beginning of next season, date to be advised.   Thanks again to Caroline Lumb for continuing to organise the ladder, devising the rules and updating the monthly leagues.
