Membership
The current annual full membership is £110. Junior membership is £10 and County membership (if living over 50 miles away) is £40.
There is also a “lawn fee” of £4 per session. Guest playing fee is £8 per session. Summer or outdoor croquet starts at the beginning of April and continues until mid October. Club sessions are on Mondays and Thursdays each week from 10.00am to around 3.30pm with players arriving and leaving when they wish between these times.
Winter croquet is played at the Tarka Tennis Centre, 7 Seventh Bretheren Bank, Barnstaple EX31 2AP. The 2023/2024 season started on 19 October – 12:00pm to 3:00pm, and thereafter every Thursday until the commencement of the outdoor season on 18 March 2024.
Winter sessions will be £6 for Croquet Club members and £8 for guests.
New Members
We welcome anyone interested in trying out croquet, we offer “give croquet a try sessions” during which guests will be given the opportunity to try croquet with guidance from the club coach. We provide all of the equipment necessary and only need you to come in comfortable clothing and wear flat shoes or trainers to protect the lawns. The “give it a try” session is free and these are held during normal club session times on Mondays and Thursdays.
If you have never played croquet before, do not be put off, as on the “give it a try” session you will be shown how to play and at the end of the session you will be able to play a full game.
Croquet is a sport which can be learned in a short time but takes much longer to play well. It is enjoyable to play and we find that members improve their skills rapidly during the season.
After the “give it a try” session, you will be able to come along as a non member for a few weeks and receive further coaching before you make the decision to join the club as a member.
Guests
We also like to welcome guests who may be visiting North Devon and, if you would like to get in touch, we would be very happy to invite you to visit and play with us, or use a lawn, during your stay. The fee for each guest is £6 per session in the summer and £8 per session in the winter.
