Visiting Groups
During the summer playing season, we host 2 days ( one in early summer and one later on) when up to 20 members of the WI come to play, are given coaching, and then play a tournament during the day with a final match for the 2 best teams and a runners up match for the next 2 teams. The winning team on each of the days receive medals. We have been running these days for a number of years and they are always heavily subscribed by WI members who enjoy themselves. We also provide a tea at the end of day, to allow the WI and club members, who help in organising the days, to socialise.
We run a weekly session for U3A members from the area who come along to play. We have a maximum limit of 20 U3A members at these sessions. Members from Braunton U3A, Barnstaple U3A and Torridge U3A are all able to join this group provided we have space.
We also host other groups such as the 41 club and would be happy to hear from any other groups who may want to try out croquet. Get in touch for more information.
All of these visiting groups use our club equipment and are given coaching in how to play and how to improve their game.
Competitions
We play in the league of the South West Federation of croquet clubs. This involves playing teams from Plymouth, St. Agnes, Bude and Cornwall croquet clubs each year, with us playing two away and two home games.
We also play a number of friendly games including matches against Bude and Wootton Courtenay.
The members of the club can play in a number of inter club competitions at the end of the summer season and also when we play indoors in the winter. The winner of each competition is presented with a cup for the year.
In the last 2 years we have started playing a ladder competition within the club to allow players to challenge each other in singles matches.
Members can opt to take part in any of the above competitions and matches if they wish.
